History of Cabot, Arkansas
What is now known as Cabot, the largest city in Lonoke County, started off as a humble refueling station on the Cairo & Fulton Railroad. Cabot, Arkansas first appeared in 1873 and is thought to have been named after one of the railroad surveyors.
The city of Cabot became the 139th city in Arkansas when it incorporated in 1891. In the early 1900s, Cabot was overshadowed by other Arkansas cities. After the Little Rock Air Force Base opened in the neighboring town of Jacksonville in 1955, the city experienced a surge in population growth. Between the Air Force Base and having a top-rated school district, Cabot rose to being the largest city in Lonoke County and is a desirable area for many people today.
The city of Cabot is Arkansas’s 20th largest city with a population just over 25,000. There are plenty of local restaurants, parks and three golf club communities. Cabot is home to the award winning Cabot High School and has been recognized as a great place to raise a family. You can find many businesses along Main Street and there is always something to do outside.
